Born in Michigan, Mary first studied watercolor during a summer class at Cranbrook Institute of Art, at the age of ten. She remembers enjoying the effects of water and pigment flowing, as she painted a vase of flowers. She was fortunate to have parents who encouraged her artistic endeavors. After graduating from Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Mary attended Parson’s School of Design in New York City. She continued her art studies as she majored in drawing at Wayne State University in Detroit.

Following a move to Greece, Mary exhibited her plein air and live model watercolor paintings in Thessaloniki. Later in Athens, she studied oil painting with Aristotle Solounias, and exhibited still life oils in Kolonaki. She sold her street drawings in Mykonos. After 30 years in Greece, where she married and raised a family, she again crossed the sea and settled in Florida.
Today, remarried to her high school sweetheart, Mary delights in painting local scenes as well as places she loves in Europe. Joining Brevard Watercolor Society, she started winning awards at local watercolor competitions. After being accepted into several online shows and annual exhibitions with Florida Watercolor Society, Mary received her signature status with FWS in 2019. She is affiliated with Eau Gallery in Melbourne, Florida, where she has been showing her work since 2015. Here is a link to the rest of her paintings.
